TATTOO AFTERCARE
Here you will find our suggested aftercare method for second-skin shield, as well as traditional aftercare.

Second-Skin METHOD:
Keep the Shield on your tattoo for up to 3 days. During this time, be careful to not let anything pierce or break the shield. Some liquid under the shield is normal, however if the shield begins to leak just wipe away from the shield with a clean, damp towel. The shield is water-resistant but not waterproof. It is essentially an open wound, so treat it as such. During this time stay out of pools, beaches, standing bodies of water, or dusty areas until your tattoo heals. At the end of the 3rd day, remove the shield in the shower, under warm running water. Remember to peel down, not away. Wash your new tattoo with antibacterial soap. Once the shield is removed, and cleaned, pat dry with a clean towel. Once dry, you will begin moisturizing the tattoo regularly with white, unscented lotion. The tattoo will peel and may scab during this time, but don’t worry, that’s perfectly normal. Just keep using lotion every day for the rest of the healing process. When the tattoo is finished peeling, there will be a layer of shiny skin underneath. This is just the glaze and will disappear over time. Once it is fully gone, your tattoo is completely healed. If for any reason the shield is pierced or begins to fall off before the 3 day mark, remove the shield entirely and treat the area using the Traditional Healing Method outlined below.
Traditional Healing Method:
Keep the bandage on for 1hour. Afterwards, remove the bandage and wash your new tattoo with antibacterial soap and warm water. Pat-dry with a clean towel. For the next 2-3 days apply a thin layer of A&D or Aquafor Ointment to keep your tattoo hydrated. Dont use too much, only enough to cover the area. Gently apply ointment when tattoo feels dry, about 2-3 times a day. The tattoo will peel and may scab a little, this is natural. After 2-3 days, stop using the ointment, and switch to white, unscented lotion. Keep using the lotion every day for the rest of healing. Remember no pools, beaches, standing bodies of water, or dusty areas until your tattoo is done peeling. It is essentially an open wound, so treat it as such. When the tattoo is finished peeling, there will be a layer of shiny skin underneath. This is just the glaze and will disappear over time. Once it is fully gone, your tattoo is completely healed.
